Raquel Algaba (b. 1992) is a Spanish artist and curator, based between Seville and Cologne. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid and a Master’s degree in Art: Idea and Production from the University of Seville.
In her artistic practice, Algaba constructs hybrid mythologies in which her ceramic figures appear protected or constrained by the structures that support them, exploring unstable boundaries between permanence and fragility, memory and transformation. Her work engages with inherited images and forms which, once displaced from their original narratives, can enter into new constellations. The exhibition space thus becomes a speculative scenography in which different temporalities overlap and the past ceases to function as a closed narrative, becoming instead a material for transformation.
Algaba has presented solo exhibitions at the Royal Artillery Factory in Seville and the Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Creation (C3A) in Córdoba, as well as a solo project at Art Düsseldorf with Reiners Contemporary. Her work has also been shown at the Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art (CAAC), Kulturpalais Lichtenstein, and the Barjola Museum in Gijón, among other institutions.
As a curator, she has developed projects at La Casa Encendida, Sala de Arte Joven of the Community of Madrid, Casa Palacio de los Morlanes, the Barjola Museum, and C.A.V. La Neomudéjar Museum. Her curatorial practice has been recognised by programmes such as Inéditos and Se busca comisario.
